Ronald “Ronnie” DeVoe, Jr. (born November 17, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and dancer. He is best known as a member of the R&B group New Edition, and Bell Biv DeVoe.
DeVoe was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to Ronald and Diane DeVoe. He has three sisters: Donna, Deborah, and Dianna. His father was a postal worker and his mother was a bank teller. He attended the William E. Mackey School and later the Orchard Park Middle School.
In 1984, at the age of 16, DeVoe auditioned for and became a member of the R&B group New Edition. The group’s first album, Candy Girl (1983), was a success, selling over two million copies. The group’s second album, New Edition (1984), was even more successful, selling over four million copies. The group’s third album, Heart Break (1988), was another success, selling over five million copies.
In 1990, DeVoe and fellow New Edition members Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins formed the group Bell Biv DeVoe. The group’s debut album, Poison (1990), was a huge success, selling over four million copies and spawning the hit singles “Poison” and “Do Me!”.
In 1996, DeVoe reunited with New Edition for the group’s fifth album, Home Again (1996). The album was another success, selling over three million copies.
In 2001, DeVoe appeared on the reality TV show Making the Band 2. In 2003, he appeared on the reality TV show Celebrity Fit Club.
In 2006, DeVoe reunited with New Edition for the group’s sixth album, One Love (2006). The album was another success, selling over two million copies.
In 2011, DeVoe appeared on the reality TV show The Celebrity Apprentice. In 2012, he appeared on the reality TV show All-Star Celebrity Apprentice.
DeVoe has been married to his wife Shamari since 2003. The couple has two children: Ronnie III and Roman.
