Anfernee Deon “Penny” Hardaway (born July 18, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Hardaway was a four-time NBA All-Star and named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. He is currently the head coach of the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team.

Hardaway was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His mother, Shirley, was a high school basketball coach and his father, Mayce, was a factory worker. Hardaway has three older sisters and one younger brother. Hardaway’s father died of a heart attack when he was eight years old and his mother died of cancer when he was 15.

Hardaway attended Treadwell High School in Memphis where he was a three-time All-State selection. He was recruited by several colleges but chose to play for the University of Memphis.

Hardaway played for the Memphis Tigers from 1989 to 1993. He was named Conference USA Player of the Year as a junior and was a two-time All-American. He helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA tournament Sweet Sixteen in 1992 and Elite Eight in 1993.

Hardaway was selected third overall in the 1993 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic. He teamed with Shaquille O’Neal to form one of the most dynamic duos in NBA history. Hardaway was named Rookie of the Year and made the All-Rookie team. He was also selected to the All-Star team and named co-MVP of the 1995 All-Star game.

Hardaway’s career was derailed by injuries but he still managed to average over 20 points per game for his career. He was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1999 and later played for the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, and Miami Heat. He retired from the NBA in 2008.

Hardaway has been married twice and has four children. His first marriage to Mary Wilkerson ended in divorce. He married Marjorie Harris in 2013 and they have two children together.

Hardaway has a net worth of $50 million. He earns his money from his NBA career, endorsement deals, and investments.
