Paul Smith is a British fashion designer and the founder of the Paul Smith label. His designs are often considered classic British style, with a twist. Smith was born in Nottingham, England, in 1946. His father was a coal miner and his mother was a homemaker. He has two older sisters. Smith’s first job was as a clerk in a clothing store.

He later studied fashion design at the London College of Fashion. After graduation, he worked for several fashion houses, including French Connection and Vivienne Westwood. In 1976, he launched his own label with his partner, Pauline Denyer. The Paul Smith label is now a global brand, with over fifty stores worldwide. Smith has been awarded several prestigious fashion awards, including the British Fashion Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.
He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000 for his services to fashion. Smith is married to Pauline Denyer and they have two children.
