Paige O’Hara is an American actress, singer and voice artist. She is best known for her role as Belle in Disney’s 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in an Animated Film. She has also voiced Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin, Megara in Hercules and Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

O’Hara was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 10, 1956, to parents Peggy and Edward O’Hara. She has two older sisters, Sharon and Patty. O’Hara’s father was a businessman and her mother was a homemaker. O’Hara’s Irish Catholic family moved to San Diego, California, when she was four years old. She attended Catholic schools in San Diego, including Our Lady of Guadalupe School and Marian Catholic High School.

O’Hara began her acting career in community theater productions in San Diego. She made her professional debut in the 1978 Broadway production of Grease. She also appeared in the 1980 Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks. In 1981, O’Hara made her television debut in the soap opera Ryan’s Hope. She also had guest roles on Magnum, P.I. and The Love Boat.

O’Hara’s breakout role came in Disney’s 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast, in which she voiced Belle, a young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. For her performance, O’Hara was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in an Animated Film. She reprised her role as Belle in the film’s sequels Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997) and Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Magical World (1998).

O’Hara has also voiced Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin (1992), Megara in Hercules (1997) and Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). In addition to her work for Disney, O’Hara has also voiced characters for other animated films, including Anastasia (1997), We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story (1993) and The Secret of NIMH (1982).

O’Hara has been married to actor and voice artist Gary Imhoff since 1982. The couple have two children: a son, Sean, and a daughter, Erin.
