Nancy Kerrigan was born on October 13, 1969, in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Her father, Dan Kerrigan, was a welder, and her mother, Brenda Kerrigan, was a homemaker. Nancy has three older brothers: Michael, Mark, and David. Nancy began skating at the age of six. She was coached by her father and later by Tonya Harding’s mother, LaVona Golden. Nancy won her first competition, the Boston Open, at the age of eight.
Nancy competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. She placed second in the ladies’ singles event. In 1992, Nancy competed in the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. She won the bronze medal in the ladies’ singles event. In 1994, Nancy won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She also won the World Figure Skating Championships that year.
In 1994, Nancy was attacked by a man with a metal baton after a practice session at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Michigan. The attacker was later revealed to be hired by Nancy’s rival, Tonya Harding. Nancy suffered a bruised knee as a result of the attack.
In 1995, Nancy won the World Figure Skating Championships. She also won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships that year. In 1996, Nancy competed in the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She won the silver medal in the ladies’ singles event.
After the 1994 attack, Nancy became more famous and was able to capitalize on her fame. She appeared on television shows and in commercials. She also wrote an autobiography, “Nancy Kerrigan: My Story.” In 1995, she made a cameo appearance in the film “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.”
In 1997, Nancy retired from competitive skating. She married her agent, Jerry Solomon, that year. The couple has three children: Matthew, Brian, and Nicole.
Nancy has appeared on television shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” and “Skating with Celebrities.” She has also been a commentator for figure skating competitions. In 2010, she was inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
