Michael Cavanaugh is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He is best known for his work on the Broadway stage, most notably in the musicals Movin’ Out and Billy Elliot the Musical.
Cavanaugh was born in Richfield, Ohio, on May 5, 1976. His parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his mother and stepfather. He has two older sisters. Cavanaugh’s interest in music began at an early age; he started playing piano when he was five years old and later took up guitar and drums. He attended Richfield High School, where he was active in the drama club.
After graduation, Cavanaugh moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. He worked as a bartender and a waiter while trying to break into the music business. His big break came in 2002 when he was cast in the lead role of Tony in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Cavanaugh received rave reviews for his performance.
Following Movin’ Out’s run, Cavanaugh starred in a number of other Broadway shows, including The Wedding Singer, All Shook Up, and Billy Elliot the Musical. He has also appeared on television shows such as Law & Order: SVU and 30 Rock. In addition to his work as a performer, Cavanaugh is also a successful songwriter; he has co-written songs for artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
Cavanaugh is married to actress Jennifer Damiano. The couple has one daughter.
