Lee Tergesen is an American actor, best known for his roles as Tobias Beecher on the HBO series Oz, and Wayne on the TNT series The Last Ship.
Tergesen was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on July 8, 1965, the son of a stockbroker and a housewife. He has two sisters. He was raised in a Catholic family and graduated from Glen Ridge High School in 1983. He attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, but left after one year to pursue an acting career.
Tergesen’s first acting role was in the 1987 film Ironweed, starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. He also had roles in the films Black Rain (1989), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), and Wayne’s World 2 (1993). In 1996, he was cast as Tobias Beecher, a convicted murderer, on the HBO series Oz. He appeared in all six seasons of the show, from 1996 to 2003.
In 2014, Tergesen began appearing as Wayne, a Navy SEAL, on the TNT series The Last Ship. He has appeared in all five seasons of the show, from 2014 to 2018.
Tergesen has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Mariska Hargitay, from 1994 to 1997. His second marriage is to actress Brittany Daniel, with whom he has two daughters.
