Kurt Schwitters was born on June 20, 1887, in Hanover, Germany. His parents were Henriette and Eduard Schwitters. He had one sister, Gertrude. His early education was at the Humanist Gymnasium in Hanover. He began his art career as a painter, but he later became a pioneer of collage art and what is now known as installation art. He is best known for his work “The Ursonate.”

Schwitters died on January 8, 1948, in Ambleside, England.
