Jack Burns was born on September 15, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts. His father was a police officer and his mother was a homemaker. He has two brothers and one sister. He attended Boston College, where he played football and baseball. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1969. He played minor league baseball for two years before being called up to the major leagues. He played for the Yankees for four years, winning two World Series titles. He then played for the Atlanta Braves for two years. He retired from baseball in 1977.

He began his acting career in 1978, appearing in the film “The Deer Hunter.” He has since appeared in over 50 films and television shows. He has won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

He is married to actress Amy Madigan. They have one daughter.
