Gary Brooker, MBE (born 29 May 1945) is an English singer, songwriter, pianist and founder of the rock band Procol Harum. He was the lead singer and main composer of the band, and is the only member of Procol Harum to have appeared on all of their albums. He is also a successful solo artist, and has released eight solo albums.

Brooker was born in Hackney, London, and grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. His father, Frederick William Brooker, was a policeman. His mother, Edith Maude (née Flack), was a housewife. He has two older sisters, Jean and Sheila. Brooker was educated at Westcliff High School for Boys.

He started his musical career as a member of the Paramounts, a British R&B band, in 1962. The Paramounts had some success with their cover of “Poison Ivy” and “Gonna Get Along Without You Now”. In 1966, Brooker and fellow Paramounts member Keith Reid formed Procol Harum. The band’s debut single, “A Whiter Shade of Pale”, was a huge international hit, reaching number one in several countries.

Procol Harum released eleven studio albums between 1967 and 1977. They toured extensively throughout the 1970s, and were particularly popular in the United States. In 1981, Brooker disbanded Procol Harum, but reformed the band in 1991 with a new lineup. They have released four studio albums since then.

In addition to his work with Procol Harum, Brooker has also released eight solo albums. His most recent solo album, Still With Me, was released in 2017.

Brooker was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to music.

Gary Brooker is married to former model and actress Katie Kissoon. They have two daughters, Jemima and Natasha. Brooker also has two sons from his first marriage to Hazel O’Connor, Oliver and Matthew.
