Douglas Smith is an American actor. He was born in New York City, on November 22, 1985, to Patricia (née Harris), a teacher, and Robert Smith, an engineer. He has two younger sisters, Ashley and Brittany. Smith was raised in a Catholic household and attended Catholic school for grade school. He then went on to study at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. After graduation, he attended the Juilliard School, where he was a member of the Drama Division’s Group 35 (2003–2007).

Smith’s film debut was in the independent film The Good Heart (2010), in which he played a homeless man. He has since appeared in the films Seven Psychopaths (2012), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013), If I Stay (2014), and Hooten & the Lady (2016). On television, he had a recurring role as Ryan Hardy’s (Kevin Bacon) nephew, Joey Matthews, on the Fox series The Following (2013–2015). He also starred as the titular character in the Syfy series Harry Houdini & Doyle (2016).

In 2017, Smith starred as Agent Dale Cooper in the third season of the Showtime series Twin Peaks. He will also appear in the upcoming films The Starling (2019) and Spontaneous (2020).

Smith has a net worth of $4 million. He earned $50,000 per episode of The Following and $175,000 per episode of Twin Peaks.
