Dodi Fayed (born Dodi Al-Fayed; 15 April 1955 – 31 August 1997) was an Egyptian film producer and the son of billionaire businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed. He was in a relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales, with whom he died in a car crash in Paris.
Early Life
Dodi Fayed was born on 15 April 1955 in Alexandria, Egypt, the eldest son of Mohamed Al-Fayed and Samira Khashoggi. His father was a wealthy Egyptian businessman and his mother was a Saudi Arabian princess. He had two younger brothers, Ali and Omar. The family moved to London in the early 1960s.
Fayed was educated at Millfield School, a boarding school in Somerset, England. He later attended the London School of Economics but did not complete his studies.
Career
After leaving university, Fayed worked for his father’s company, Harrods. He eventually became the head of the film production company Fulham Productions. He produced several films, including Chariots of Fire (1981) and The Scarlet Letter (1995).
Fayed also had a successful career as a businessman. In 1984, he and his father purchased the Hôtel Ritz Paris. In 1988, they bought the house of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill for £12 million.
Relationships
In 1997, Fayed began a relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales. The couple were photographed together on several occasions and their relationship was widely reported in the media.
On 31 August 1997, Fayed and Diana were killed in a car crash in Paris. Their driver, Henri Paul, was also killed. An investigation later determined that Paul was drunk at the time of the accident and that he was driving too fast.
