Santos was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on August 5, 1991. His parents are both from Brazil. He has two older sisters. Santos began playing football at the age of 10. He played for a local club team in Brazil before moving to the United States in 2009 to attend high school.
Santos played football at Tulane University from 2010 to 2013. He was a four-time Conference USA All-Academic Team member and was named the 2012 Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year. Santos was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
He played for the Chiefs from 2014 to 2018. Santos was named to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017. He was released by the Chiefs in 2019 and signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Santos has a career field goal percentage of 85.7%. He is the Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer with 1,151 points.
