Alex Band is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer of the rock band The Calling, whose hit song “Wherever You Will Go” peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2002.
Band was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 8, 1981. His parents divorced when he was two years old, and he was raised by his mother, Mary, a former model. He has two older sisters, Jessica and Natalie. Band began playing guitar at the age of 12 and started writing songs soon after. He attended high school in Agoura Hills, California, where he was a member of the school’s jazz band.
After graduating from high school, Band moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. He signed with RCA Records in 2000 and released his debut album, Alex Band, that same year. The album’s first single, “I Still Believe,” peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
The Calling’s debut album, Camino Palmero, was released in 2001. The album’s lead single, “Wherever You Will Go,” became a massive hit, reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and selling more than three million copies in the United States. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and went on to sell more than five million copies worldwide.
The Calling released their second album, Two, in 2004. The album’s lead single, “Our Lives,” peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album was less successful than their debut album, selling only one million copies worldwide.
The band went on hiatus in 2005 and Band released his second solo album, We’ve All Been There, in 2006. The album’s lead single, “Only One,” peaked at number 37 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
In 2008, The Calling reunited and released their third album, III. The album’s lead single, “Something,” peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The album was a commercial disappointment, selling only 30,000 copies in the United States.
The band went on hiatus again in 2010 and Band released his third solo album, Time Will Tell, in 2011. The album failed to chart.
In 2013, The Calling reunited once again and released their fourth album, Redemption. The album’s lead single, “Could It Be Any Harder,” peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The album was another commercial disappointment, selling only 20,000 copies in the United States.
The band went on hiatus for a third time in 2015 and has not released any new music since.
Band has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Jennifer Sky from 2002 to 2004. His second marriage is to actress and model Olivia Klemptner; the couple has been married since 2014 and have two children together.
Band has a net worth of $5 million.
