Webster began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in various television commercials and movies. He had a small role in the 1984 film “Iceman”, and also appeared in the TV series “MacGyver” and “Street Legal”. In the late 1980s, he landed the role of Cole Gioberti on the soap opera “Falcon Crest”. He played the role for four years, until the show was cancelled in 1990.
In the early 1990s, Webster appeared in the films “Naked Lunch” and “The Nutty Professor”. He also had a recurring role on the TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210”. In 1995, he began starring as Dr. Richard Webber on the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”. He played the role for two years, until the show was cancelled in 1997.
In the late 1990s, Webster appeared in the films “Spawn” and “The Big Hit”. He also had a recurring role on the TV series “Charmed”. In 2001, he began starring as Michael Cassidy on the NBC sitcom “Friends with Benefits”. The show was cancelled after one season.
In 2003, Webster began starring as Detective Carlos Fonseca on the ABC police drama “The Shield”. He played the role for seven years, until the show ended in 2010.
Webster has also appeared in the films “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004), “Surrogates” (2009), and “Safe House” (2012).
