Siegfried Meister was born on May 10, 1885, in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland). His parents were both teachers. He had two brothers and one sister. Meister was an excellent student and graduated from high school at the age of 16. He then studied at the University of Breslau, where he earned his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1906.

Meister began his career as a research chemist at the Bayer Company in Leverkusen, Germany. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the head of the company’s research department in 1912. Meister made several important discoveries during his time at Bayer, including a new process for synthesizing aspirin and a method for manufacturing synthetic rubber.

In 1925, Meister left Bayer to become the director of research at IG Farben, a large German chemical company. He held this position until his retirement in 1950. During his time at IG Farben, Meister made several important discoveries, including a method for synthesizing nylon and a process for manufacturing synthetic gasoline.

Meister was married twice. His first wife, Helene, died in childbirth in 1909. His second wife, Gertrude, died in a car accident in 1937. Meister had four children: two sons and two daughters.

Meister was a member of the Nazi Party and an active supporter of Adolf Hitler. He was awarded the Nazi Party’s highest honor, the Golden Party Badge, in 1938.

Meister died on February 28, 1967, at the age of 81.
