Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, commonly known as Neymar or Neymar Jr., is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team. He is widely considered as one of the best players in the world.

Born in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Neymar began playing football as a youngster and eventually signed with Santos FC at age 11. He made his professional debut for Santos at age 17 and helped the club win two successive Campeonato Paulista championships, a Copa do Brasil, and the 2011 Copa Libertadores, being named the best player in the latter tournament. Neymar was twice named the South American Footballer of the Year, in 2011 and 2012, before moving to Europe to join Barcelona.

With Barcelona, Neymar won the continental treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League in the 2014–15 season, followed by the FIFA Club World Cup in 2015. He then attained personal acclaim by scoring the winning goal in Brazil’s Olympic gold medal match against Germany at the 2016 Summer Olympics. A year later, he suffered a broken bone in his right foot while playing for Barcelona, an injury that sidelined him for three months.

In August 2017, Neymar moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in a transfer worth €222 million, making him the world’s most expensive player at that time. In Paris, he won further league titles in 2018 and 2019, along with domestic cups in 2018 and 2020. He also helped PSG win their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2020–21.

Neymar is known for his dribbling, finishing, and ability to play with both feet. He has earned comparisons to Pelé and Lionel Messi, and has been described as one of the best players of his generation. He has also been listed among Time’s 100 most influential people in 2016 and 2019. Off the pitch, he ranks among the world’s highest-paid athletes and has been featured in various commercials. Neymar has also been active in promoting access to education and health care for children.
