Mélanie Laurent (born 21 February 1983) is a French actress, director, screenwriter, and singer. She made her film debut in 2004, starring in the French film “Don’t Worry, I’m Fine” (Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas). She has since appeared in such films as “The Last Mistress” (2007), “Inglourious Basterds” (2009), “Beginners” (2010), “Now You See Me” (2013), and “Enemy” (2013).
Born in Paris, France, Laurent was raised in a Jewish family. Her parents are both French citizens; her father, Pierre Laurent, is a voiceover artist, and her mother, Annick Levy, is a journalist. She has an older brother, Mathieu, and a younger sister, Julie. Laurent began acting at the age of eight, appearing in a school play. She later attended the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied acting.

When I read the script of Inglourious Basterds (2009), I was like, wow, it's been my dream to kill [Adolf Hitler] since I was like four, so I was kind of like Shosanna, already. I'm Jewish. I read the script, together with my grandfather, and he told me, "You have to make that movie, please". So, it was not just for me, it was for my family.
