Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on August 19, 1969. His parents are John Bennett Perry, an actor, and Suzanne Morrison, a Canadian journalist. He has two older sisters, Alexandra and Elizabeth. Perry was educated at the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, and at the prestigious Swiss boarding school Le Rosey.

Perry’s acting career began with a small role in the 1987 film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon. He went on to appear in a number of television shows and films, including Fools Rush In (1997), The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and 17 Again (2009).
