Mark Austin is an English journalist and television presenter. He is the son of a newsagent and grew up in Bournemouth. He was educated at Bournemouth School for Boys and then at the University of Bristol, where he read politics. He began his career in journalism as a reporter on the Bournemouth Evening Echo in 1980. He then moved to London to work for the Daily Mail, where he became a political correspondent. In 1986, he joined Thames Television as a political reporter.

He then moved to ITN, where he became a political editor and then a presenter. In 1992, he joined the BBC, where he presented the BBC One programme Breakfast News. In 2013, he returned to the BBC to present the BBC News channel programme Outside Source.
He has also presented the BBC Radio 4 programme Today and the BBC World Service programme Newshour. Austin has been married twice and has three children.
