Larry Johnson is a retired American professional basketball player who was born on March 14, 1969, in Tyler, Texas. He is the son of Larry and Shirley Johnson. He has two sisters, Lisa and Lori. Johnson was a star player on his high school basketball team. He was recruited by several colleges, but chose to play for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Johnson was a two-time All-American and led the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels to the NCAA championship in 1990. He was the first overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

Johnson had a successful rookie season, averaging 19. 2 points per game and being named Rookie of the Year. He was also selected to play in the 1992 All-Star Game. Johnson’s career was plagued by injuries, but he still managed to be a productive player. He averaged double figures in scoring nine times in his 14-year NBA career. Johnson retired in 2005 with career averages of 16.
