Lani O’Grady (born October 28, 1954) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Mary Bradford Ryan on the ABC television series Eight Is Enough.
Early Life
Lani O’Grady was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of actress Lanette Sue (née Johnson) and publicist Thomas Francis O’Grady. She has two sisters, Connie O’Grady and Leilani O’Grady. Her father was of Irish descent and her mother was of Swedish and English ancestry.
O’Grady began her acting career at the age of seven when she appeared in a television commercial for Mattel’s Barbie dolls. She made her television debut in an episode of the CBS sitcom All in the Family in 1971. She went on to guest star on several popular television shows of the 1970s, including The Waltons, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Charlie’s Angels.
In 1977, O’Grady was cast as Mary Bradford Ryan in the ABC comedy-drama series Eight Is Enough. She played the eldest daughter of Tom Bradford (played by Dick Van Patten), a newspaper columnist and widower with eight children. The show aired for four seasons from 1977 to 1981.

After Eight Is Enough ended, O’Grady appeared in guest roles on several television shows, including Magnum, P.I., Hart to Hart, and The A-Team. She also had a recurring role as Lt. Maggie Doyle on the NBC medical drama Emergency! from 1982 to 1983.
In 1984, O’Grady starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Me and Maxx. She also appeared in the television movies A Stranger Is Watching (1982) and Perry Mason: The Case of the Defiant Daughter (1987).
In the 1990s, O’Grady retired from acting and became a real estate agent. She made a brief return to television in 2000 when she appeared in an episode of the NBC sitcom Will & Grace.
Personal Life
O’Grady has been married three times. Her first husband was actor Jameson Parker, with whom she had two sons: Dylan Thomas Parker (born 1985) and Sean Robert Parker (born 1987). She was married to businessman Kevin Yorn from 2000 to 2006. She has been married to real estate developer Michael Ahern since 2008.
O’Grady is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2001 and underwent a double mastectomy.
