Fact
Founding member of the Nice.
Keith Emerson was born on November 2, 1944, in Todmorden, Yorkshire, England. His parents were working-class, and his father was a coal miner. Emerson was interested in music from an early age, and he took piano lessons as a child. He was also a fan of rock and roll, and he played in a band called the T-Bones. Emerson attended the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied classical music. After graduation, he joined the rock band The Nice, which became successful in the late 1960s. Emerson’s virtuoso playing style was a major factor in the band’s success.
In 1970, Emerson formed the progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), which became one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. ELP’s albums include “Tarkus” (1971), “Pictures at an Exhibition” (1971), “Trilogy” (1972), and “Brain Salad Surgery” (1973). Emerson is widely regarded as one of the greatest keyboardists in rock history. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame.
Emerson has had a successful solo career, and he has also worked as a producer and film composer. His net worth is estimated to be $30 million.
Emerson has been married three times. His first wife was Janice Gahan, with whom he had two sons. Emerson’s second wife was actress and model Mari Kawaguchi, with whom he had a daughter. Emerson’s third wife is author and photographer Kate Rubins. He has three children from his previous marriages.
