George Barris (born November 20, 1925) is an American custom car designer and builder. He is best known for creating famous Hollywood cars, including the Batmobile, the Munster Koach, and the Beverly Hillbillies’ Granny’s Drive-Inn. He has also created cars for television shows and movies such as The Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, Batman, The Dukes of Hazzard, and KITT from Knight Rider.

George Barris was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 20, 1925. His parents were Greek immigrants. He has two brothers, Sam and Alex. Barris was interested in cars from an early age. He would often go to the auto show with his father. When he was 16, he moved to Los Angeles with his family.

Barris began his career as a car customizer in the 1940s. He opened his own shop, Barris Kustom Industries, in North Hollywood in 1954. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative and creative designs.

Some of Barris’ most famous creations include the Batmobile, the Munster Koach, and the Beverly Hillbillies’ Granny’s Drive-Inn. He has also created cars for television shows and movies such as The Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, Batman, The Dukes of Hazzard, and KITT from Knight Rider.

Barris has been married three times. His first wife was Shirley Ann Austin. They were married from 1945 to 1951. His second wife was Jeanette Marie Albrecht. They were married from 1952 to 1957. His third wife is Nancy Ann Barris. They have been married since 1960.

Barris has three children: George Jr., Kelly, and Jody. George Jr. is also a car customizer.

Barris has been inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2010, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
