Florian Mayer (born October 5, 1986) is a German professional tennis player. He has won one singles title and one doubles title on the ATP Tour. His career-high singles ranking is world No. 34, which he achieved in August 2012.
Mayer was born in Bayreuth, West Germany. His parents are Stefan and Petra Mayer. He has one older sister, Stefanie. Mayer began playing tennis at age four. He was introduced to the game by his father, who is a tennis coach.
Mayer had a successful junior career, winning the German Junior Championships in 2004. He also reached the semifinals of the 2004 Wimbledon Junior Championships.
Mayer turned professional in 2005. He won his first ATP Tour title in 2009, defeating Tommy Haas in the final of the BMW Open. He also won the doubles title at that event, partnering with Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Mayer’s best Grand Slam result came at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the third round. He has also reached the third round of the French Open twice (in 2010 and 2012).
