Seigner was born on 22 June 1966 in Paris, France. Her father, Olivier Seigner, is a French actor, while her mother, Françoise Seigner (née Van den Broek), is a Dutch model. She has two sisters, Delphine and Mathilde. Seigner’s paternal grandfather was actor Louis Seigner and her paternal grandmother was actress Simone Signoret. Seigner’s maternal grandfather was Dutch Olympic fencer Jacobus Johannes “Co” van den Broek.
Seigner began her acting career in 1984 with a small role in the film Paroles et musique. She followed this with roles in films such as L’année des méduses (1985), Les Keufs (1987), and Mauvais genre (1989). In 1988, she was nominated for a César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in Les Keufs.
In 1991, Seigner had a breakout role in the film Delicatessen, which was directed by her future husband Roman Polanski. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Seigner’s performance earned her a César Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Seigner has since appeared in such films as Bitter Moon (1992), The Ninth Gate (1999), Frantic (1988), and Venus in Furs (2013). She has also appeared in several of Polanski’s films, including The Pianist (2002), Oliver Twist (2005), and Carnage (2011).
Seigner has been married to Roman Polanski since 1989. The couple have two children: son Elvis and daughter Morgane.
