Doug E. Fresh (born September 17, 1966), is an American rapper, record producer, and beatboxer, also known as the “Human Beat Box”. The pioneer of the human beatboxing technique, Fresh is able to accurately imitate drum machines and various special effects using only his mouth, lips, gums, throat and a microphone.
Fresh was born in The Bronx, New York City, New York. His father, Charles Stewart, was a professional singer. His mother, Julia Rodriguez, was a housewife. He has two older brothers, Marvin and Gregory. Fresh was raised in the Bronx River Projects. When he was seven years old, he began selling drugs. He was expelled from school in the eighth grade. He attended Martin Luther King High School but did not graduate.
Fresh’s career began in the early 1980s when he was discovered by Kurtis Blow. He was featured on the single “The Show” and the album Fresh. He began his recording career with the single “Just Having Fun”, which was followed by the album Oh, My God! (1986).
In 1988, Fresh released his second album, Keep Risin’ to the Top. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 50,000 copies. In 1989, he released his third album, E. Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew. The album was a commercial success, selling 1.5 million copies.
In 1992, Fresh released his fourth album, Play with Me. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 200,000 copies. In 1993, he released his fifth album, Doin’ What I Gotta Do. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
In 1995, Fresh released his sixth album, Life in the Fast Lane. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 500,000 copies. In 1997, he released his seventh album, Made in America. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
In 1999, Fresh released his eighth album, One for All. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 200,000 copies. In 2001, he released his ninth album, Oh My God 2. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
In 2003, Fresh released his tenth album, The World’s Greatest Entertainer. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 100,000 copies. In 2005, he released his eleventh album, I-95: The EP. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
In 2007, Fresh released his twelfth album, Love Is Life. The album was a commercial failure, only selling 50,000 copies. In 2009, he released his thirteenth album, The Final Chapter. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
In 2011, Fresh released his fourteenth album, The Legend Continues… The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies. In 2013, he released his fifteenth album, History: Funked Up & Chilled Out. The album was a commercial success, selling 1 million copies.
