David Schramm is an American actor and director. He is best known for his role as Roy Biggins on the NBC sitcom Wings.
Schramm was born in New York City, the son of Gertrude (née Zwickler) and William Schramm. His parents were both Jewish immigrants. He has two sisters, Barbara and Beverly. He was raised in the Bronx and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1957. He then attended Syracuse University on a drama scholarship.
Schramm’s acting career began on the stage, appearing in such Broadway productions as The Rothschilds and The Sunshine Boys. He made his film debut in the 1971 film The Hospital. He also appeared in the films Catch-22 (1970), Serpico (1973), and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974).
In 1975, Schramm was cast as Roy Biggins on the NBC sitcom Wings. The show ran for eight seasons, from 1990 to 1997. Schramm also directed several episodes of the show.
After Wings ended, Schramm appeared in guest roles on television shows such as The King of Queens, JAG, and 7th Heaven. He also had a recurring role on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns from 1998 to 2000.
In recent years, Schramm has appeared in the films The Bucket List (2007), Get Smart (2008), and Up in the Air (2009).
Schramm has been married three times. His first wife was actress Linda Lavin, with whom he had two children, Kate and Peter. His second wife was actress Dixie Carter, with whom he had one child, Ginna. His third wife is actress Kristin Chenoweth, with whom he has no children.
