Cheryl James, also known as Salt, is an American rapper, songwriter, and actress. She is best known as a member of the hip hop group Salt-N-Pepa.

Born on March 28, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York, Cheryl James is the eldest of three children. Her parents were both from Jamaica and moved to the United States in the early 1960s. Cheryl’s early education took place in the New York City public school system.

It was during her teenage years that Cheryl began to develop an interest in music. She started out as a breakdancer and later became a rapper. In 1985, she met Sandra Denton, also known as Pepa, and the two formed the hip hop group Salt-N-Pepa. The group went on to release several successful albums and singles, including the hits “Push It” and “Shoop”.

In the early 1990s, Cheryl began to branch out into acting. She appeared in the films “CB4” and “Gang Related”. She also had a recurring role on the television series “Martin”.

In 1999, Cheryl James married rapper and actor Treach. The couple had two children before divorcing in 2005.

Cheryl James has an estimated net worth of $8 million.
