Brian Bedford was born on February 16, 1935, in Morley, Yorkshire, England. His parents were John and Gladys (née Wilcock) Bedford. He had two older sisters, Sheila and Barbara. Bedford was educated at Leeds Grammar School and then at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Bedford’s first professional role was as a member of the Old Vic Company in 1956. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 in “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” He won a Tony Award for his performance in “The School for Scandal” in 1966. He also appeared in many films, including “The Importance of Being Earnest” (2002), “Spider-Man 2” (2004), and “The Voyage of the Damned” (1976).
Bedford was married to actress Jennifer Hilary from 1960 until her death in 1999. They had two sons, Oliver and Christopher. Bedford died on January 13, 2016, at the age of 80.
