Amalia Aguilar is a Mexican-American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 13, 1983, to Mexican immigrants. Her father was a construction worker and her mother was a homemaker. She has two older sisters. Aguilar began singing and acting at a young age. She appeared in various commercials and television shows before landing her first major role in the film Selena (1997).
Aguilar’s career took off after Selena. She released her debut album, Amalia Aguilar, in 1998. The album was a huge success, selling over two million copies in Mexico. She followed it up with two more successful albums, Enamorada (2000) and Mi Corazon (2002). Aguilar has also appeared in several films and television shows. In 2003, she starred in the film Chasing Papi alongside Sofia Vergara and Jaci Velasquez.
Aguilar has been married to Mexican actor Mauricio Ochmann since 2011. The couple has two daughters.
